Ballincollig 5-16 Carrigaline 4-5
The Minors opened their league campaign with a trip to Carrigaline on Thursday night. Grace McDonnell was in fabulous form, opening Ballincollig's tally with two goals and two points in the first eight minutes! Excellent passing and teamwork was rewarded with a goal for Meadhbh Flynn and points for Nicole Smyth, Trish Murphy, and again Grace & Meadhbh F, with Ballincollig leading Carrigaline 3-6 to 2-2 at the halfway mark. Trish opened the second half with an immediate goal, and later in the match superbly converted a penalty, awarded as Elaine McCarthy was fouled as she headed for a certain goal. Grace again popped over six points during the second half, with Meadhbh F, Orlaith Jennings & Trish adding to the points. The backs were tested when Carrigaline were in possession, and Carrigaline made effective use of the opportunities they were given. An excellent display of teamwork and intelligent use of the ball by Ballincollig Minors led them to a final score of Ballincollig 5-16 to Carrigaline 4-5.
The U18B Group is completed by Donoughmore and Nemo. The Donoughmore match was to be played on Wednesday in Ballincollig, with a trip away to Nemo to complete the preliminary rounds next week. Only two of the four teams can qualify for the County Championship, so all to play for!!
The U21 County Championship will begin in a few weeks, so all eligible players should continue to attend training.
