Ladies Football Updates (Aug 30)

September 03, 2011

U16s, U18s & Juniors: Training on Mondays 7-8pm & on Thursdays 7-8pm.
Training continues, with the Championship County Final coming up shortly. It is pencilled in for 3/4th September against Ilen Rovers, from down Baltimore way. The venue will be half-way but  details had not been finalised at time of going to press, though it is hoped to play the match on Saturday evening 3rd September, around 6pm.

The Minors were opening their 2011 campaign on Thursday, away to Carrigaline. Matches will be coming fast and furious for a few weeks!  The following week they are at home to Donoughmore, followed by a trip away to play Nemo Ladies the week after.

U12/U14 Training on Mondays 6.30-7.30pm.
The Mid Cork Autumn competition will be starting shortly so all U12s & U14s need to keep their touch in!!

U10s: Training is back, 5.30-6.30pm on Mondays.
The Mid Cork U10 Blitz was held last Saturday 27th August, in Donoughmore. The weather was favourable, and the young Ladies from Ballincollig were joined by clubs including Passage, Nemo, Grenagh and our hosts Donoughmore Ladies, who put on a great spread providing endless cups of refreshment and a bite to eat during the blitz.  Lots of match action was enjoyed by all players, which is so  crucial to their skills development. Our own girls put on a great display of their abilities, and really enjoyed the outing. They all got medals to celebrate their day and were a pleasure!  Orla Nic Cárthaigh scored a great goal on the pitch named for her late grandfather, delighting many! Our thanks to Maria & Aileen for taking them, and all to the parents who supported!  The final was contested by St Vals & Éire Óg, with St Vals again taking home the Danielle Forde Memorial Cup! Danielle's parents Anne & Donie presented medals and cup and were delighted with the turnout, particularly as the blitz was held in their native Donoughmore this year.

We have also been invited by the Passage Ladies Club to their annual U8s & U10s Blitz on Saturday 17th September for the day! Parents please pencil it in the diaries!
New players are always welcome and training for the U10s will continue into the autumn months until inclement weather and lack of light drives us off the pitch!  We have been able to train almost every Monday afternoon in dry weather since March, and we hope to go on for another few months at least!

Cork U16s win All-Ireland Final!
Warmest Ballincollig Ladies congrats to Aobha Hickey of the U16s and John Fitzgerald (Cork selector) who came home from Banagher victorious in their All-Ireland Shield Final match against Mayo on Saturday last. They had been training with the county since January and did the club proud, as always! Final Score: Cork 7-9 Mayo 1-11

Cork Senior Ladies are heading for Croke Park again for the Senior All-Ireland Final on 25th September!!
Cork Senior Ladies have earned their place in the All-Ireland Final in September, comprehensively dispatching Laois in the end, on Saturday evening in Cashel.  Although the teams were level on 1-3 apiece at the halfway mark, Cork upped their game and assisted by a couple of quick goals by captain Amy O'Shea, finished clear of the Laois Ladies by 13 points on a score of Cork 4-10 Laois 1-6. Unique among Cork Senior men & women's gaelic games teams this year, only the Ladies Footballers will represent the Rebel County on All-Ireland Final Day at HQ! Tickets will be available for the day, with the Junior All-Ireland Final at 12pm, Intermediate at 2pm and Cork v Kerry/Monaghan at 4pm on Sept 25th in Croke Park. Entry:Adults €25, and Children €5.  Contact the club if tickets are required and we will help all we can!

Cork's Senior Development Squad will be playing their National Aisling McGing Memorial Cup Competition Semi-Final against Kerry here in Ballincollig on Saturday 3rd September at 2pm. All support is welcome. Cork won the first three years of the competition in 2007, 2008 & 2009, and were runners-up to Dublin in 2010.

On Monday next, 5th September, Ballincollig will also host a Senior Ladies Football County Semi-Final match between Clonakilty and Donoughmore at 7pm.

County Draw Tickets
All club players were issued with County Draw tickets over the past few months. Now we need stubs and €€s to be returned asap to Margaret Flynn, so people who bought tickets can be included in the upcoming monthly draws. These are in books of five tickets at €5 each, and extra books are available if necessary.  Thanks to all who have bought tickets, with the super prize of a car to be won before Christmas!! It could be you!!

Gaelic4Mumz:
This intrepid bunch of footballers are training away on Mondays at 7-8pm. Holidays  now over, alas, but an excellent opportunity to get back to routines like training, training & training!! Certainly a silver lining! A couple of injuries have had a chance to heal, and plenty more craic to be had!!
