2014 County Finalist meet in League
February 17, 2016
Ballincollig 1-10 Carberry Rangers 1-10
Our senior footballers faced Carbery Rangers in the league last Sunday, the first meeting of the teams since the 2014 county final. Just like that day a tight tussle ebbed and flowed, and on this occasion the points were shared.
We opened brightly, with Ian Coughlan and Cian Dorgan carrying the main scoring threat. Noel Galvin returned to action and picked up a lot of breaks around the middle, while Colin Moore was outstanding at centre back. However, a defensive mix up gifted Carbery Rangers a goal and that was the margin at the break, 1-7 to 0-7.
They extended their lead to five points early in the second half, but our lads dominated proceedings from then on. Ian Coughlan did well to punch a pass to the net after a strong run from Cian Kiely, but wasteful shooting prevented us from going clear. Chance after chance was spurned before Ian Coughlan finally levelled the game with an injury time free.
This was a promising performance for the time of year, with plenty of good play and chances created. Best for Ballincollig were Colin Moore and Ian Coughlan. This game also marked the return of Brian Cotter to senior football action and his experience and strength on the ball make him an excellent addition to the team.
Team: C Noonan; C Collins, L Jennings, S Murphy; D Murphy, C Moore, Noel Galvin; Sean Kiely and Ciaran O'Sullivan; Brian Cotter, John Kelly, Niall Allen; Cian Dorgan, Ian Coughlan, John Miskella. Subs: Mark Prendergast, Dylan Kerstein, Cian Kiely, Kevin Browne.
