Ballincollig 0-10 Naomh Abán 1-4
Our senior footballers edged out Naomh Abán in this Rochestown Park Divison 1 league game in Ballincollig on Sunday. We dominated the opening period and held a five point lead at the break. Naomh Abán clawed their way back into the game with a penalty conversion from their talisman Micheál à CroinÃn. However, Ballincollig closed out the game with some outstanding defending while our ability to convert chances proved the difference between the sides.
A magnificent long range point from John Kelly opened the scoring and Alan Donovan added another to give Ballincollig the perfect start in the opening minutes. The standard of play from both sides was excellent considering the unfavourable weather conditions.
After a competitive opening period Ballincollig went on to dominate the second quarter of the game. Ciaran OâSullivan was outstanding in midfield and he put Johnny Kelly through for a well worked score. Naomh Abán replied with a placed effort from à CroinÃn to keep the Ballyvourney men in touch. Ballincollig dominated the closing stages with points from Alan Donovan, Cian Dorgan and Johnny Kelly ensuring a comfortable, 0-8 to 0-3 lead at the break.
The deteriorating weather conditions made life difficult for both sides and we went six clear after a fine effort from Kevin Browne. Our defending was excellent with Liam Jennings calling the shots.
