Junior C Football League v Kilmurry 13/9/15
Ballincollig travelled to Kilmurry for our last league match where a win would put us into contention for a league final place.
Collig started brightly with 2 points from the energetic Darren Murphy. On 9 mins Diarmuid Nolan scored a goal after getting on the end of a move involving Darren and James OâLeary. Two more points followed from Darren before Brian OâRiordan won possession to set up Diarmuid from a nice point from distance. Our defence was on top with Eoghan OâCallaghan snuffing out Kilmurry attacks and our half back line pushing forward.
A strong attack initiated by Colm Bohane and carried on by James lead to a powerful Eoin Byrne shot which gave their keeper no chance. Kilmurry finally got on the scoresheet before Darren caught a short kick out and released Cain OâFlynn who finished to the net with aplomb after 21 mins.
Eoin Byrne closed out the first half scoring with a point after Colm intercepted a Kilmurry attack and released Diarmuid for a long run before he teed up Eoin.
Half Time Ballincollig 3-8, Kilmurry 0-1.
The OâDonovan brothers in defence continued to close down Kilmurry and restrict their opportunities. Our scoring rate decreased in the second half but Darren, Cain and Brian added points to keep us well ahead. With Kevin Bohane directing our backs and Shane Hogan adding impetus to midfield, our players continued to work hard in the difficult conditions.
Full Time Ballincollig 3-13, Kilmurry 1-4.
