On Friday 3rd July, Ballincollig hosted Clondrohid in a Division 4 league match.
A tight opening period saw Clondrohid lead 0-4 0-3. However, lapses at the back left in Clondrohid for two quick goals but Ballincollig responded with a strong run from Dan Barry setting up Gavin O Callaghan for a shot which the keeper saved only for Dan Murphy to finish the rebound to the net. A powerful shot from Padraig O Donovan went over the bar from a tight angle to leave the score 2-4 to 1-4. Clondrohid got 5 points before half time to lead 2-9 to 1-4 at the break.
Ballincollig suffered an early second half set back when Clondrohid scored their 3rd goal to lead by 10 points. All credit to our players who refused to give in and a neatly taken goal by Eoin Byrne gave Ballincollig a life-line. With Eoghan O Callaghan and Paddy Lucey providing a solid platform at the back and Diarmuid Nolan pushing forward at every opportunity, Ballincollig took the game to our opponents. Ballincollig found themselves behind 3-11 to 2-7 with 10 minutes to go. Two points from Gavin OâCallaghan and a Dan Barry special got huge momentum going and with Mark O Sullivan full of energy, Ballincollig had the bit between their teeth.
Michael McNulty slotted home the crucial goal and with Clondrohid looking to the time keeper, Eoin Byrne stepped up to level the match with a point from distance in the last minute.
