Feile Football Results
March 17, 2015
Ballincollig were hosts last weekend to group 1 of 8 in this years Football Feile competition. We were drawn with Bandon, Glenville and Duarigle Gaels. All games were 15 minutes aside. Bandon were first up and were easily despatched 7-11 to no score, Glenville were up next and were no match for Ballincollig who really were up for these games (Ballincollig 4-05 Glenville 1-04). It all came down to the last game with Duarigle Gaels with both teams having won 2 from 2. Ballincollig were in unforgiving mood and duly despatched them 7-11 to 1-0. Job done and onto the Quarter Finals.
In total we have a panel of 23 players and all of them played today; competition for places is every managers dream and these lads did not disappoint today. On Sunday we were at home to red hot favourites Douglas while Ballincollig were not supposed to be any match for Douglas, but nobody told us that and from the first whistle the lads took the game to Douglas. 3 points down after 5 minutes we went in at half time all square. A goal by Evan Cooke and points from Paul Cooney and Dara Dorgan keeping us in it. Douglas were feeling the pressure at this stage and with Ryan Forde and Stephen Wills at midfield pulling the strings and our half backs Sean Ryan, Evan Cooke and Matt Bourke winning vital possession we lad by 3 points with minutes remaining. The dream was becoming a reality. Our full back line of Jason O'Connor Josh Cotter and Ryan Crowley put their bodies on the line for the cause while John O'Driscoll in goal was immense. Douglas hit us on a counter attack and showed just how good they are with a wonderful goal - all square with 2 minutes remaining. Ballincollig did not panic and we won the kickout. We worked the ball up the field, up to our half forwards of Conor O'Leary, Ciaran Bohane and Joe O'Leary (super players all of them). The ball was delivered to our full forward line of Louie Heffernan, Paul Cooney and Dara Dorgan, Paul knocking the ball over for a one point lead. 1 minute to go. Bang! Douglas score their second goal with seconds remaining. We win the kick out but time is up. The lads are devastated and lose out after a great game - Douglas 2-06 Ballincollig 1-07.
We will pick ourselves up again and drive on for the season ahead. We won a lot of admirers over the weekend with our heart and determination and our attacking style of football. I have no doubt that there will be better days ahead for this group of players. We turn our attention to hurling over the next few months with the Feile hurling taking place in early April and with league games coming thick and fast its going to be a busy few months. So heads up boys. Ye can be very proud of yourselves as we know everyone in Ballincollig GAA certainly is.
