Ballincollig 4-11 Nemo Rangers 0-10
Ballincollig completed the U16 Premier 1 Football Championship and League double with an emphatic victory over an excellent Nemo Rangers team in the League Final at home on Saturday night last.
It would be difficult to find anyone in the large crowd to predict the eventual scorline of this game after 15 minutes, considering the brilliance of Nemo Rangers play during the opening period. Their pace and intensity and point taking was incredible as they raced into a 6 point lead while Ballincollig struggled to get out of their own half.
This Ballincollig team have always relished a challenge however, and within an amazing 10 minute spell they proceeded to tear Nemo apart. It started from midfield as Eoin Reilly and Gearoid O Donoghue aided by wing backs Mark Walsh and Dara O Riordan drove the team forward. They scored 2 goals from the excellent Robert Bourke and Matthew Whealan, 6 points from all angles, hit the crossbar following a powerful run from the outstanding Jordan Murray and had another cleared off the line to lead at the break 2-6 to 0-6.
The 2nd Half did not prove any better for Nemo as Ballincollig played with a style and pace that was at times breathtaking. The 3rd goal and Whealanâs 2nd was as good a team goal as one would wish to see. The introduction of 6 substitutes changed nothing, as all seamlessly integrated into a team and a system that so many have found impossible to defeat. A 4th goal was added by James O Leary and 5 further 2nd half points by the forwards. The forwards usually get the credit in most sports but the backs as always superbly led by Shane Oâ Neill and Kevin Crowley played a huge part in this victory. One save from goalkeeper Shane Hogan was out of this World and to see 3 superb block downs in quick succession from different players in the last minute of normal time perhaps sums up the mentality of this team. Final score Ballincollig 4-11 Nemo Rangers 0-10.
The cup was presented to excellent Captain David Courtney by the Secretary of Rebel Og Central Region Donal O Leary. In his presentation speech Donal pointed out that this Ballincollig team have won all available competitions, bar one during the past 5 years.
