U13 footballers defeat Nemo in Final
November 26, 2014
Ballincollig 5-08 Nemo Rangers 5-03.
Last Saturday our U13 footballers took on Nemo Rangers in the Premier 1 Football Plate Final. A good start saw Ballincollig take an early two point lead before Nemo responded with three points on the trot to lead by one. Ballincollig then took control with goals from Fionnan O'Sullivan and Evan Cooke plus a couple of points from Steve Wills saw us well in control by half time.
Nemo started the second half all guns blazing, only for some fine goalkeeping from John O'Driscoll and some excellent defending from our full back line of Matt Bourke, Josh Cotter and the impressive Ben Van De Linde kept us in the game. After weathering the storm, Ballincollig rallied again and started to keep the scoreboard ticking over with points from Steve Wills and Ryan Forde before another goal from Evan Cooke put us in the driving seat. Louie Heffernan was introduced and made an immediate impact, setting up Sean Ryan for a great goal and minutes later the two combined again for Sean's second score a well taken point. With five minutes remaining we led by a massive eleven points. However, Nemo scored two late goals to add a bit of gloss to the scoreline, but it was always going to be Ballincollig's day.
Team on the day: John O'Driscoll, Matt Bourke, Josh Cotter, Ben van De Linde, Joe O'Leary, Ciaran Bohane, Chris Twomey, Sean Ryan, Paul Cooney, Ryan Crowley, Evan Cooke, Ryan Forde, Fionnan O'Sullivan, Steve Wills and Dara Dorgan.
Jason O'Connor, Sam Heinen, Dara O'Brien, Cian Kilkenny, Louie Heffernan and Colin McSweeney. Injured were Conor O'Leary and Simon O'Sullivan.
The lads now take a well earned break and we look forward to a big year next year. The management and mentors would like to thank all the players and their families for all their help and support throughout the year and wish everyone a very happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
