Ballincollig 3-11 Midleton 2-06
Midleton were the visitors last Saturday for the Premier1 U13 Hurling League Plate Final. We got off to the worst possible start, finding ourselves down by 1-01 after just five minutes. After that it was all Ballincollig. A goal by Evan Cooke steadied the ship and with the Ballincollig back line dominant at this stage we finished the first half a point to the good.
We started the second half the way we finished the first, a point from the impressive Conor O'Leary and a wonder score from Steve Wills (a point from the sideline inside the 13m) had the large crowd in attendance and ourselves wondering how he managed it, but he did! Midleton managed another goal but it was cosmetic really as Ballincollig were dominant all over the park. Captain fantastic Ciaran Bohane at full back with Chris Twomey and Daire O'Brien either side of him were immense. Goalkeeper Dara Dorgan was solid and kept his backs on their toes all day. Half backs Joe O'Leary, Josh Cotter and the mighty Sean Ryan dominated throughout. Paul Cooney and Jason O'Connor at midfield ran their socks off while Half forwards Conor O'Leary Ryan Crowley and Evan Cooke ran their markers ragged. The full forward line of Ryan Forde, Fionnan O'Sullivan and Steve Wills were a handful all day with their pace and point taking. Simon O'Sullivan, John O'Driscoll, Sam Heinen, Louis Heffernan, Colin Mcsweeney, Ben van den Linde and Cian Kilkenny all played their part when called upon. A special mention for the injured Matt Bourke. Matt was there supporting his team mates at training and the games, fair play Matt and we hope to have you back soon!
In total we managed an impressive 3-08 from play and that is down to the hard work the lads put in week in week out on the training pitch. Ciaran accepted the Cup on behalf of the team and afterwards we enjoyed refreshments in the club (thanks Johnny Drick for doing the cooking). We look forward now to the football over the coming weeks and a trip to Dublin to play Ballyboden in November.
Scorers on the day: Evan Cooke 2-02, Steve Wills 1-05(0-2)frees, Conor O'Leary 0-2, Paul Cooney 0-1(65) and Ryan Ford 0-1.
