SENIOR FOOTBALLERS FACE MUSKERRY ON SUNDAY @ 7.00PM IN CLOUGHDUV
Our senior footballers are in the quarter-final of the County Championship this Sunday evening in Cloughduv. This will be a real local derby against Muskerry Division. We have enjoyed excellent victories over St Finbars and Carberry Division in the campaign. We defeated Carberry Division on a score line of 3-15 to 1-11 recently . Patrick Kelly scored 2-2 while John Miskella showed outstanding leadership when the need was greatest. We started brilliantly and Kelly scored a superb goal to give us a four point lead early on. Ciaran OâSullivan and Sean Kiely were gaining plenty of possession around the middle of the field which was hugely important to the overall victory. We wish all the players and management the very best of luck this Sunday evening.
Intermediate hurling
Unfortunately our Intemediate hurlers suffered a disapointing defeat to Charleville on a score line of 0-15 to 1-9 in the championship recently . A large Ballincollig crowd travelled with great expectations but we just failed to spark on the night. Conor Sexton landed a lovely point early on to settle us into the game while Colin Moore delivered plenty of ball forwards. Colin Harris also started extremely brightly but an injury forced him off the field early in the game. Nevertheless, there was very little between both sides during the opening half. David Bowen was magnificent in general play and also landed a number of placed efforts which ensured we led by 0-5 to 0-4, at the break.
Unfortunately , the opposition really got hold early in the second half and landed a couple of early scores. Our defence was under plenty of pressure during this period with Noel Galvin clearing an amount of ball. Our goalkeeper Finbar Kelly put in another masterclass and landed a couple of long range scores from placed efforts. Despite the best efforts of our forwards we struggled to get inside the Charleville defence. Our lads battled all the way to the final whistle and Niall Allen got a consolation goal in the final play of the game. Nevertheless it was a disapointing season.
Junior Hurling
Our Junior hurlers enjoyed a very positive campaign with victories over Inniscarra and Ãire Ãg before losing out to Cloughduv by three points, 3-10 to 0-15. Three goals in a four minute period in the opening quarter ensured Cloughduv led by 3-4 to 0-8 at the break. We battled back bravely but they never looked like scoring a goal. Every time, Ballincollig got within touching distance Cloughduv upped their game . The closing stages saw the victors defence comfortably in control as we desperately tried to manufacture a goal scoring chance. To be fair that never looked likely and Cloughduv defeated Kilmichael in the mid-Cork Final.
Disappointment for U21 Hurlers
Our U21 A hurlers enjoyed a good victory over Inniscarra before suffering a disappointing defeat to Ãire Ãg on a score line of 1-13 to 0-11. We started brightly against a strong breeze and raced into an early lead with points from Luke Prendergast and Aidan OâDonovan. There was very little between the sides in the opening quarter as two placed efforts from Ãire Ãg ensured the sides were level, 0-4 apiece after 16 minutes.
Ãire Ãg were denied a certain goal by a magnificent save from our goalkeeper Ronan Cambridge. Further points put the ovens side three points clear. We replied with well taken scores from Jason Murray and Stephan Bunyan which reduced the gap to the minimum. Crucially for Ãire Ãg, they tacked on points which ensured they led by, 0-9 to 0-6 at the break.
Both sides pointed before Ãire Ãg broke inside the cover for an Ãire Ãg goal early in the second half. We briefly threatened to get back in the game with points from Cian Dorgan and Stephan Coughlan. However, Ãire Ãgâs were clinical with every opportunity and converted 0-8 from placed efforts. Ballincollig desperately tried to manufacture a goal scoring chance but it simply wasnât going to be our night.
