Ballincollig 3-20 Beal Athan Ghaorthaidh 2-7
In what is likely to be the Junior Aâs final league outing before Championship on Sunday 20th against Donoughmore, the players were determined to show the management team what they are capable of and they proceeded to brush past Ballingeary with ruthless efficiency. On a warm summerâs evening Ballincollig started off with good pace but were lacking early accuracy and Ballingeary took advantage with the first score of the game. It was to be but brief respite however, as Ballincollig were already looking dominant in midfield with Daniel OâSullivan and Dylan Kerstein winning a lot of ball, and with Dan OâConnor and Frank Downs in excellent form in front and behind them, this central axis was to ultimately prove the platform upon which Ballincollig would build their impressive win on. After 15 minutes, Ballincollig lead 0-3 to 0-2 but went into the HT break leading 1-14 to 0-2, and it was that 15 minute period of utter dominance from James OâReilly and Kevin Daltonâs charges which broke Ballingeary. What was just as satisfactory for the A management team though was the no let-up in effort as the lead built up, and 12 scores in 15 minutes, from a mixture of splendid individual and team efforts, proved that.
The 2nd half was always going to be a tighter affair, as Ballingeary would look to get something out of the game, but with the combination of all the stopping and starting for frees and the introduction of substitutes on both sides, the free-flowing rhythm of the first half was gone. In truth, the pace and intensity of the 2nd half never matched what went before and it became a more even affair with the 2nd half seeing Ballincollig add 2-6 to their score whilst Ballingeary racked up 2-5. Ballincollig will have been happy to see their changes making an impact on the game though, in particular Kevin Browne, as all 4 outfield subs managed to get on the score sheet. A good victory under the belt before Championship is always welcome, and hopefully against Donoughmore on July 20th, this team can continue its good form.
