U14 Ladies make it Two wins out of Two
February 28, 2014
Ballincollig 2-5, Passage West 2-3
Ballincollig Ladies are in a unique position this year with two Under 14 teams competing in the League. Foireann Bán and Foireann Glas were busy last weekend with matches on Saturday and Sunday. Foireann Bán were in action when they met Passage West at home. The girls once again put on a great display of team work as they built on their victory over Ballinora the previous week. From first touch of the ball, it was obvious that this team were hungry for possession, chasing down every chance. Our corner backs Abi and Molly O Grady, showed solid defence clearing the ball up the field with the help of confident performances from Ava and Siobhan. Kara did a terrific job in goal, and together with Caitlin, secured the goal-mouth, bursting forward with mighty kicks up the field. Orla NicCarthaigh opened the scoreline with a great pass from Hannah in the middle of the field as the girls quickly settled into the game. Ciara added to our score when she buried a beautiful goal in the back of the net. With scores remaining close throughout, the sides were equal at half time and knew they had everything to play for in the second half. Ballincollig conceded a goal early in the second half, but in keeping with the great spirit of the team, they carried on determinately. With great team-work from Aisling Julie and Fiona, the ball was quickly back in Passageâs half, where Ruby scored a terrific goal. Orla Keating, Hannah and Ruby worked tirelessly right through to the final whistle, ensuring that the Ballincollig girls kept as much possession as possible. All the hard work paid off, with Ballincollig pulling ahead by two points, a lead which they maintained right to the final whistle. This team is growing in confidence and show great potential.
Panel on the day: Abi O Donoghue (c), Aisling Dore, Fiona Linehan, Molly O Grady, Orla Keating, Ava Lordan, Ciara O Sullivan, Orla NicCarthaigh, Siobhan Keane, Hannah O Leary, Kara Lacey, Erin Taylor, Caitlin Quinn, Ruby LeFeuvre, Louise Kelleher, Julie Creedon, Amy Murphy
Our U-14 âFoireann Glasâ gave an excellent account of themselves in their away game v Naomh Abán last Saturday. Each member of the team played their part from our goalie Rachel right through to our full forward Allie. It is worth noting that many of this panel will be eligible to play at U14 level for another three years. Erin, as always, gave an awesome display in defence leading the team from the backline with the help of Louise and Aisling. Our recent recruit, Ciara Healy, although new to the squad, is showing great ability and strength. Representing our U12s panel on the day were Amy Murphy, Ciara Lee, Ãabha Buttimer, Allie Cleary and Grace Oldham. There is no doubt that games like these will prove invaluable experience for them when they come to play their own league later in the spring. Each one of them was well able to step up to the mark against a very experienced Naomh Abán side. Kate Walsh worked tirelessly in the centre of the field to link up with our captain Ashleigh on whom we can always depend to bring leadership and skill. What was remarkable on the day was this teamâs work ethic as they soldiered on against wind and rain until the final whistle. Although victory was not to be ours on this occasion, we were immensely proud of what is a developing team of girls who show great promise for the future. Foireann Glas Abú!
