Ballincollig 3-12 Boherbue 1-7

Ballincollig are through to the semi-final of U21A football championship after shaking off the challenge of a dogged Boherbue side in Macroom last weekend. We were certainly flattered by the score line as the north-Cork side launched a strong comeback early in the second half. Cian Dorgan finished the game with a total of 3-5 and the Cork U21 panellist landed some brilliant scores while also converting two penalties in the opening quarter.

Boherbue were denied a dream start in the opening minute when they were denied a certain goal by a brilliant save from our goalkeeper Ciaran Noonan. Ballincollig were gifted a penalty when Eoin O’Reilly was hauled down and Dorgan slammed home after his first attempt was saved. Boherbue squandered a number of chances during this period before Dorgan crashed home a second penalty after 14 minutes.

Ballincollig were enjoying plenty of possession around the middle and Cian Kiely landed a super score to increase our advantage. We continued to dominate and Dorgan landed a couple of magnificent points to ensure his side led by 2-6 to 0-2 at the break.

After Boherbue scored 1-2 without reply, Cian Kiely lifted the siege for his side with a powerful run through the centre before clipping over the bar. Moments later, Dorgan landed another great score as his side finished strongly. Boherbue battled on bravely but Dorgan was now pulling the strings and he capped off a magnificent individual performance by slotting home his third goal of the night deep in injury-time.
