U-14's - P2 County Football Champions 2016!!
May 17, 2016
Another County for The Village! That was the outcome last Wednesday evening in Macroom when our gallant U14 team returned victorious after an epic battle against Wolfe Tones of Kanturk. In what was a tremendous game of football that ebbed and flowed we eventually ran out winners by a single point. We were made to work hard all the way by spirited and able Kanturk outfit who turned an 8 point deficit down to the minimum with full time approaching. Thankfully for us our boys dug deep and showed the resilience that they are now becoming known for to hang on in and bring the first county title back to the club in 2 years.
The 30 boys who togged out on the night are a credit to the themselves and their families and represented the club in a most professional manner from start to finish. To have this number of boys all on the age representing the club in the final bodes well for the future of our club and with increasing numbers like this coming through we can hopefully dream of more nights like this in the near future. Well done to all involved.
Feile Hurling
In what has been a hectic schedule for this group of late we also participated in the Cork section of Feile in hurling where we lost out narrowly to the eventual winners The Glen in the final group game which was played in Eire Og. We had topped our group by beating both Ballygarvan and Ibane Gaels and then went on to qualify for the final by beating Valley Rovers in the semi final. In what were horrendous playing conditions the lads did themselves proud in coming so close to qualifying for Sunday's finals considering that they basically only had 2 training sessions which were played either side of a County football semi final in the run up to the event. This certainly was not the ideal preparation but the rewards of doing well in both codes can sometimes go against you which was certainly the case in this instance. However disappointing that this may be at one level the fact that the boys only lost 1 match between both Feile competitions will certainly be seen as a success by most fair minded people. Next up is hurling championship so keep an eye out for some exciting fixtures that are come up and get behind the lads! Up the Village!!
