Mixed bag for Senior and Junior Championship Teams
May 11, 2016
Ballincollig 0-13 Bishopstown 3-8
Our senior footballers were defeated in the opening round of the senior football championship. It was one of those nights when lady luck was very much against us. The greasy conditions resulted in the concession of three first half goals while injuries to Noel Galvin and Killian Coleman resulted in us losing our shape at a key stage in the game. Nevertheless, there were plenty of positives with Cian Dorgan, Sean Kiely and Sean Lucey putting in very impressive performances. Our opponents have been knocking on the door at this championship for many years now and on their day are a match for anyone. After getting back in the game it was frustrating to lose two players who were soaking up so much ball. We now face Beara in the next round and we wish the management and players the best of luck in their preparations.
Béal Ãthan Ghaorthaidh 0-10 Ballincollig 1-7
Robert Noonan snatched a late equaliser against Béal Ãthan Ghaorthaidh in this highly entertaining Ross Oil JAFC game at Kilmichael last weekend. Our goalkeeper Ciaran Noonan also made a top class save from a Seartan penalty which proved a defining moment in the game. Brian Cotter had an excellent game and landed a beauty to keep Ballincollig in touch, 0-5 to 0-3 at the break.
Aided by a slight breeze, Ballincollig were back on level terms with well taken scores from Robert Noonan and Luke Carey Murphy. Ballincollig kept their composure and a superb move involving Brian Cotter, Stephen Coughlan and Shane Murphy resulted in Brian Glavin finding the net which reduced the gap to the minimum. Moments later Béal Ãthan Ghaorthaidh had a golden opportunity to forge ahead but their penalty was superbly stopped by Ciaran Noonan. Ballincollig pressed hard in the closing stages and Robert Noonan made no mistake after a good pass from Stephen Coughlan.
