Intermediate Hurlers beat Meelin in testing conditions 2014-03-09 16:10:00

Ballincollig 0-10  Meelin 0-7
Interemediate Hurling League

Our Intermediate hurlers got the new season off to a winning start with a hard fought victory over Meelin last Sunday. Conditions were testing but we stormed into an early lead courtesy of an excellent point from David Bowen. We enjoyed plenty of possession in the opening quarter and were denied a number of goal chances with some last gasp defending. Brian Glavin landed our second point before Cian Dorgan and Ciaran Sullivan ensured we led by 0-4 to 0-2 at the break.
Ciaran O’Sullivan showed plenty of drive throughout and he extended our lead early in the second half.

JP Murphy had a fine game and he landed an excellent score before Cian Dorgan landed a placed effort. The opposition certainly tested us but points from Glavin and the outstanding O’Sullivan delivered the first league points of the year. Everybody was bound to be rusty for the opening encounter and the team travel to Kilworth this weekend for our second league game.

Team: F Kelly; D Collins, C Moore, S Murphy; D McDonald, L Jennings, R Doherty; C Dorgan, JP Murphy; L Prendergast, C Sullivan, D Bowen; B Glavin, J Miskella, N Purcell.
