Ballincollig Ladies Football ( Update 29 Nov)

November 29, 2011

U16s, U18s & Juniors: Training on Mondays 7-8pm & on Thursdays 7-8pm
No rest for the wicked!!!With December fast approaching, the U21s have reached the Final of the County Championship, with Ballincollig taking on Carrigtohill in the County Final at the weekend. Training has been very effective with good turnout and meaningful matches being possible. Players will be notified of the details of the match at the weekend, when the details have been finalised.

U12/U14: A few months to chill...!!!
Indoor training has now finished for the autumn, and girls and their drivers can take a well-earned break for the festivities....! This bunch of ladies have been training since February, participated in Féile, short break, and trained away since! Our thanks to Nicola Young, Deirdre Dore & John Fitzgerald for their dedication. The football skills are remarkable among the players, and we wish all the girls well who will be moving on to the next group next time they meet.  As in many things in life that we are dreading, the unknown mostly turns out to be a positive step, to be embraced!

U10s: Time to Rest...!
The U10s have also completed their training indoors for the autumn, and will miss the worst of the cold and wet winter conditions as their training will be taking a break until the spring. Thanks to Aileen & Maria for all their efforts, and Luke who has been helping out when he can.

Extra training: All the football training has come in handy for the Transition Year Ladies in Coláiste Choilm, who face a busy week of final rehearsals and four performances of the annual musical next week. West Side Story is the musical this year, and we wish the Sharks, the Jets, and the backstage/backroom staff all the best! Imagine, the poor girls had to find dresses and skirts....to the knee!!!

Hoodies: The order has been sent in so the mentors will be in touch with the staff when they arrive, in the next few weeks. Next order will be in the spring.

Cork U18 Ladies: Cork Minor Ladies Squad are beginning the search for the next All-Ireland winning team in Mid Cork on Saturday 3rd December at 11am, at Ballincollig Gaa.  Chasing back-to-back All-Ireland titles is no joke, but at this stage of the selection process there is plenty of fun! The 2011 All-Ireland winning management are staying on for 2012, and looking for new faces to add to the squad. Divisional sessions will be followed by serious trials after Christmas, so a few of the Ladies from Ballincollig might be in attendance. It could hardly be any more convenient for yiz!!!

Buíochas: Our thanks as always goes to Ballincollig GAA for obliging us with pitches for training and matches.
Our increase in the number of mentors involved in the club has already had an impact on participation, with many more young ladies enjoying the air and picking up a few skills while they are at it! It gives us scope for more matches to be played, which is the life blood of the game.
For any parent who would have played football themselves and wish to put something back into the sport, there is a constant demand for volunteers, and we would love to have you!
For those who have never had the opportunity to play, the skills of a coach can easily be learned.  So don't hesitate, let someone know you are interested/available and we will slot you into the next available coaching course.
Among the high standards required by the Ladies Football Association, are adequate training and Garda Vetting. Coaching Ladies Football is a very rewarding experience, and only needs a few hours a week.
For any parent who would prefer to get involved in an admin area, we always need those too! Our AGM will be held after Christmas, so positions will be available!!!

Bag Packing: Our final session for 2011 will be a spot of bag-packing at Dunnes Stores in  Ballincollig Shopping Centre next weekend, 9th/10th December. Our thanks to Dunnes Stores for the opportunity and to the generous shoppers of Ballincollig, in advance.
