"Ask The Expert" Night with Donal Óg and Tomas O'Sé

"Ask The Expert" Night with Donal Óg and Tomas O'Sé

October 29, 2015

BALLINCOLLIG GAA club have assembled a brilliant line-up of guests for a fundraising Ask the Experts event on Friday, November 13.

Donal Óg Cusack, Tomás Ó Sé, Valerie Mulcahy and Larry Tompkins are on board for the questions and answers session in Ballincollig, which starts at 9pm on Friday week.
Four of the finest players on the field, they're also honest and outspoken off it, which guarantees genuine insights on the night into modern GAA tactics, the 'club versus county' debate, dual players, and more.

There will be particular interest in new Clare coach Donal Óg Cusack, who shocked everyone recently when he accepted an offer from Davy Fitzgerald to join his backroom team in the Banner. As well as being a Rebel icon between the posts for over a decade, Cusack has always been a deep thinker about hurling and was outstanding over the past two years as an analyst on The Sunday Game.

Valerie Mulcahy is one of six Cork ladies footballers who managed the astonishing feat of picking up 10 All-Ireland medals in an 11-year spell. The teacher in Gaelcholáiste Mhuire AG, has been at the forefront of the growth in popularity in ladies football, and this summer hit two stunning goals against Kerry before top-scoring against Dublin in the All-Ireland final.

Larry Tompkins might be a Kildare native but has long nailed his colours to the Cork mast, from orchestrating All-Irelands in 1989 and 1990 to delivering on the club scene with Castlehaven. The no-nonsense approach from Tompkins' heyday as Cork's playmaker remains, and as a manager and pundit he's never been afraid to call it as he sees it.

The same can be said for Tomás Ó Sé. The Kerry legend is arguably the best wing-back of his generation, and while he shied the limelight as a player, he has impressed with his straight-talking when working for The Sunday Game and through his GAA columns.Ó Sé also has a feel for football in Cork that few other Kerrymen do. He has worked as a teacher in Fermoy for a long period, and this season came out of retirement to anchor the defence for Nemo Rangers.
It was perhaps inevitable that a county title would follow. The Gaeltacht native has just released a fascinating new book 'The White Heat'. We all want to know how he thinks Cork will do next year under new management ?

Club chairman Brian Long explained there is already huge interest in the Ask the Experts night, which will also showcase the recent renovations in Ballincollig clubhouse.

“We're delighted such high-profile GAA stars have agreed to attend. Their calibre as players and experts in GAA is unquestionable, and the event will be hugely worthwhile for anyone in Cork who has an interest in hurling or football.”
