Ballincollig U14 Feile Hurling 2015

April 13, 2015

Last weekend Ballincollig hosted Sarsfield, Courcey Rovers, Ibane Gaels and Ballygarvan in Group 1 of this year's Feile hurling competition. Ballygarvan were first up and after a nervy first half, Ballincollig settled well and were comfortable winners. Courcey Rovers were up next and provided a much sterner test, however, Ballincollig edged a tight game by 2 points. The next opponents were group favorites Sarsfield, the winners of this game would qualify for the quarter finals. In an absorbing contest Ballincollig edged it by just one point, before Ibane Gaels were easily dispatched thereafter. So onto the Quarter Finals...

On Sunday at 5pm, a huge home crowd gathered in anticipation of our Quarter Final fixture V Cobh and our lads did not disappoint, winning comfortably 2-08 to 0-2. The highlight of this game being Dara Dorgan's wonderful one-on-one penalty save. This resulted in a Semi-final spot secured against Tournament favorites Douglas at 6pm. Douglas took an early one goal lead but Ballincollig responded with well taken points from Paul, Evan and Conor to go in at half-time one point down. Douglas started the second half with two good points to lead by three. With time running out, Paul Cooney added a point to close the gap to 2 points before Ballincollig win a free on the 65 and needing a goal, the ball is lobbed into the square. Unfortunately, Douglas clear the ball up the field where it takes a deflection and ends up in the back of the net. The Referee blows the whistle and it is all over - Douglas 2-03 Ballincollig 0-04

We lose out once again to Douglas, but the lads can take heart from their performance, everyone of them from 1 to 26 put their bodies on the line for their teammates, their club and can be very proud of themselves. Championship is just around the corner so going on these performances, we can be very optimistic. Finally the management and selectors would like to thank everyone for their huge support over the weekend, it really made it a special occasion for everyone involved.
