Disappointment for U21 Hurlers

August 15, 2014

Éire Óg                      1-13
Ballincollig               0-11

Our   U21 A hurlers suffered a disappointing defeat to Éire Óg in Cloughduv last Tuesday night. Ballincollig started brightly against a strong breeze and raced into an early lead with points from Luke Prendergast and Aidan O’Donovan.    There was very little between the sides in the opening quarter as two placed efforts from Éire Óg ensured the sides were level, 0-4 apiece after 16 minutes.

Éire Óg were denied a certain goal by a magnificent save from our goalkeeper Ronan Cambridge. Further points put the ovens side three points clear. Ballincollig replied with well taken scores from Jason Murray and Stephan Bunyan which reduced the gap to the minimum. Crucially for Éire Óg, they tacked on points which ensured they led by, 0-9 to 0-6 at the break.

Both sides pointed before Éire Óg broke inside the cover for an Éire Óg goal early in the second half.  Ballincollig briefly threatened to get back in the game with points from Cian Dorgan and Stephan Coughlan. However,   Éire Óg’s were clinical with every opportunity and converted 0-8 from placed efforts.    Ballincollig desperately tried to manufacture a goal scoring chance but it simply wasn’t going to be our night.
