Junior Hurlers Continue Winning Ways

August 06, 2014

Our Junior hurlers outclassed Éire Óg in this Ballincollig Credit Union JAHC quarter-final game played in Cloughduv during the week.  A powerful second half performance from Ballincollig sealed an impressive victory after we  led by 0-12 to 0-7 at the break.  Ballincollig dominated the third quarter with some excellent point scoring while our  team captain John O’Brien rifled to the net after 41 minutes.

Both sides were evenly matched in the opening exchanges and Ballincollig’s Stephan Coughlan clipped over the opening score of the game. Éire Óg’s Paul Ryan is an excellent free taker and he riffled over a brace to keep his side in touch. This local derby   was certainly free flowing and Ballincollig’s Aidan O’Donovan clipped over an excellent point to edge us  in front, 0-5 to 0-4 after 12 minutes.

Further points from Cian Dorgan (free) and Colm O’Connor increased that lead.  Crucially,  Ballincollig  finished   out the opening period very strongly with excellent points from John O’Brien and Killian Kelleher which gave us  a five point cushion at half-time.

On resumption, Ballincollig tacked on scores through John O’Brien and Aidan O’Donovan (free) .   The victors showed no sign of relenting with Killian Kelleher   landing some excellent points from play. A beautiful delivery from Cian Dorgan was neatly dispatched to the net by John O’Brien which effectively ended this game as a contest.

Ballincollig dominated the final quarter with points from Cian Dorgan, Killian Kelleher and Aidan O’Donovan stretching our lead. Éire Óg scored a consolation goal after the initial effort was blocked by Niall Connaughton, while Ballincollig completed an impressive victory with a Stephan Coughlan goal. Ballincollig will now face Cloughduv in the semi-final of the competition on August 16th.
