Derry Memorial Tournament a huge success

February 19, 2011

The Ballincolloig GAA Darts club hosted the "Derry Murphy Memorial" Darts Tournament last Monday with a large crowd turning out to support the inaugural event. The event was hosted in the function room but with so many entrants the two boards in the bar area had to be brought into action also. 131 competitors took part in the Open event with the  local darts club showing great support.

Ballincollig Rugby , Telecom and Muskerry Arms among others brought large groups of players to take part in the event and the final was contested between Aaron Murphy ( Rugby Club ) and Eddie Hickey (Telecoms ). Local to do very well was Martin Kavangh going out in the very late stages.

The function room was laid out to CDO specs and the organisation of the event was complimented by all who took part as well as by the CDO officials themselves . Overall a great night was enjoyed by all who took part and it was a fitting tribute to Derry himself a well loved local character.
