 Ballincollig 0-12 Eire Óg 1-08
 U21A Football Championship SF
A point four minutes into injury time gave Ballincollig a victory with the last kick of the match. From the start both teams took a bit of time to settle before we had the opening scores. Two points from distance from Luke Fahy and man of the match Evan Cooke kept Ballincollig in close contention as Eire Og aided by a very strong wind attacked the Blackrock end of Pairc Ui Rinn throughout the first half.  At half time both sides were level five points apiece with Ballincollig much the happier considering the missed opportunities our opponents had. The second half was end to end in a pulsating battle with Ballincollig’s defense working hard as Eire Og pushed forward at every opportunity. Ballincollig keeper Shane Hogan made three outstanding saves to keep Ballincollig in the game before Eire Óg struck with the games only goal to open up a four point lead. The village responded well with points from Evan Cooke, his fifth from play, Steve Wills and Darren Murphy to draw the scores level again as the match entered the final stages. The last few minutes from here on in were frantic as Eire Og were awarded a penalty with time almost up, Ballincollig fans feared the worst but keeper Hogan heroically saved the penalty kick with a tremendous save low to his left hand side to keep Ballincollig in the match. The four minutes injury time saw Ballincollig agonizingly miss three long frees, all from forty meters out and you had to wonder had we missed our chance to win but then as the match entered the final seconds Ballincollig worked the ball to full forward Darren Murphy who brilliantly scored a superb point from a difficult angle with the last kick of the match to send Ballincollig into the County Final in four weeks time.

Club News

Well done to our U21 footballers and management team who have advanced to the County Final after a hard fought victory against our near neighbours Eire Og, the final is scheduled to be played in four weeks time as the other side of the draw is still not finished. Well done also to Nathan Wall who refereed the Munster Senior Hurling club Semifinal between Patrickswell and Ballygunner last Sunday. We know that this year isn’t finished just yet but members are reminded that the Club Registration for 2020 can now be paid online, early payment is hugely beneficial to the club and it now only takes a few minutes online. The club lotto has a nice jackpot of €18,600, tickets as always are available from usual sources. Live music continues in the club bar every Sunday at 6pm, see ye all there. UpTheVillage

Great Service

At the county board last week our two county board delegates attended their final meeting as the Ballincollig GAA representatives. Frank MacCarthy(hurling) and Tagdh Lovett(football) have both been tremendous County Board delegates for many many years. Their dedication as our county boards delegates would rarely get any mention throughout the years but those involved in our teams and committees will know that their commitment to Ballincollig GAA served us extremely well in all matters. As one of the top dual clubs in Cork we needed strong representation for matters relating to fixtures on many occasions and both men never failed in their dedication to guarantee the best possible result for our GAA club, especially in the years where Ballincollig would be contesting the latter stages of hurling/football championships we had two good experienced delegates that ensured the needs of our teams and managers were secured time after time. A big thank you to Frank and Tagdh for all their tireless work representing Ballincollig GAA club over the many years.
