CRUCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP WEEK

Report Courtesy Of Kevin Murphy

The coming weeks are sure to be very exciting for our supporters with the Intermediate hurlers, Senior footballers, Junior footballers and Junior B hurlers all in championship action. It is terrific to be in action in so many competitions and all credit to our dedicated players who are giving it everything at present.  The club is very greatly to the many supporters who support our teams.

Intermediate Hurling

Our Intermediate hurlers are in action this weekend when they play Dungourney on Saturday afternoon at Páirc Uí Rinn @ 3.30pm. We enjoyed a superb victory over Arigideen Rangers last Saturday night in Bandon. Liam Jennings and Brian Cotter were magnificent in defence while the return of Eoin Hegarty to the attack has been a massive boost. Our opponents won the Junior County Championship last year and have taken to a higher grade really well. However, our hurlers have been improving with every game and the panel is strengthening for the business end of the season. We wish the management and players the very best of luck tomorrow afternoon.

Senior Football

Our footballers face CIT in a replay which will take place in the coming weekends. After a frustrating first round defeat we have regrouped well with a victory over Beara. We showed tremendous battling qualities to level the game with the students. Sean Kiely landed the equalising score to cap off a fine individual performance. Unfortunately injures have been a little frustrating but like the hurlers the panel is strengthening. The return of Cian Dorgan is a huge boost to both squads and we are more than capable of coming through this tricky assignment.

JUNIOR FOOTBALL

We are now in the semi final of this competition and we face Kilmurry in Ovens on Tuesday night. This team is supported by plenty of young players who have performed so well at U21 level in recent seasons. The team is a perfect blend of youth and experience and players like Noel O’Toole, Brian Cotter and Brian Kelly have shown terrific leadership throughout the summer. Our opponents are formidable but our lads have shown a real will to win in every game and it would be fantastic to be in a mid Cork final.
