Minor/ u16 Turas go Daingean

Our heartfelt thanks to Cumann Caide Ban Corca Dhuibhne, on making our ‘turas go Daingean’ such a wonderful occasion. We were invited to play in the Jerry O’Mahony memorial game on Saturday May 13th in the Gaeltacht GAA to mark the Ballincollig man’s valuable contribution to Kerry’s ladies football at club and county level. In honour of her uncle Jerry, Emma O’Herlihy led out the Ballincollig side as captain. The two teams entered the pitch through the guard of honour by the Corca Dhuibhne underage players in alternate Ballincollig/ Corca Dhuibhne jerseys. This was followed by a minute of reflection and applause in respect for a well-loved Ballincollig man who had made his home in West Kerry. This very successful Corca Dhuibhne team coached all the way up by Jerry gave an exhibition of teamwork, skill and speed that he would’ve been so proud of, including his two lovely daughters Ally and Lucy. Everyone really enjoyed the game with cheers of support for all, including a strong contingent from Ballincollig with many of Jerry’s family in attendance. Our thanks especially to Paddy, our referee on the day who added to the fun and refrained from showing any red cards when cousins were wrestled to the ground! Everyone enjoyed the wonderful spread laid on for us after the match and it was then down to the beach to cool the legs after the mini-disco in the dressing room. By then West Kerry was bathed in sunshine and it was the perfect end to the day. Míle buíochas arís le gach éinne sa chlub a chabhraigh leis an lá iontach seo a eagrú. Speaking to all those who knew him so well, Jerry was held in high esteem, is fondly remembered and truly missed by friends and family alike. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
